The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has been using surplus military 'radio terminal sets' also known as 'shelters'  for storage of high-density polyethylene HDPE containers at drop-off sites. These containers are first stripped of their content. They are about 12' x 7' x 7' and hold about 800 to 900 2.5 gallon containers. They can be obtained from any military DRMO and are free to all government agencies and non-profits.

To obtain a copy of the standard, “Recycling Plastic Containers from Pesticides and Pesticide-Related Products (ANSI/ASABE S596 FEB2006),” contact ASABE at 269-429-0300. You can view an abstract for free, and/or download and buy a pdf copy of the full standard from www.asabe.org. Follow the quick link ‘Standard Search’ on the left hand side menu of the home page. Then choose “Access Standards via the web.’ Check the box next to ‘document number’ and type S596 into the query box.
